Front-load washers trap moisture, and detergent build-up feeds mould. The smell is fixable and preventable.
Run a Cleaning Cycle
Residue in the drum and dispenser harbours bacteria.
Fix: Run the tub-clean cycle (or a hot wash) with a washing-machine cleaner or white vinegar monthly.
Dry the Door Seal
Water pools in the folds of the door boot and never dries.
Fix: Wipe the seal after each wash and leave the door ajar between loads.
Use Less Detergent
Over-dosing leaves residue that mould thrives on.
Fix: Switch to HE detergent and use the minimum recommended amount.
