A front-loader keeps the door locked until it is safe to open. When it stays locked, work through these steps.
Let the Cycle Finish or Drain
The lock stays engaged while water remains in the tub.
Fix: Run a drain/spin cycle so the machine empties, then it should release.
Cut Power for a Minute
A brief power-off often resets a stuck lock.
Fix: Unplug the washer for 60 seconds, then restore power and try the door.
Use the Manual Release
Most front-loaders have an emergency release behind the lower panel.
Fix: Pull the small cord or tab to unlock manually if the latch has failed.
