When the freezer runs colder than its setting — or the fridge section starts freezing produce — the temperature control chain has slipped out of balance.
Check the Temperature Settings
It is easy to knock the dial or touch panel to a colder setting during cleaning.
Fix: Set the fridge to 37°F (3°C) and the freezer to 0°F (-18°C), then wait 24 hours before judging.
Damper Control Stuck Open
The air damper meters cold air from the freezer into the fridge. If it sticks open, the fridge over-cools and items near the vent freeze.
Fix: A technician replaces the damper assembly — a quick job once the inner panel is off.
Faulty Thermistor
A thermistor reading the wrong temperature tells the control board to keep cooling well past the target.
Fix: Thermistor replacement is inexpensive and resolves most over-freezing complaints.
